“Adios” to the Man of La Mancha Who disappeared into his dreams “Au revoir” to Dumas and D’Artagnan Fodder for a magazine Lopin’ away, a danger to the masses No more wells to frack Highs and lows and everything between No more questions to be asked There’s something different, something new About the way that you see me Making every brick wall part of the dance In turn, rejecting the fear of being free Lopin’ away, a danger to the masses No more wells to frack Highs and lows and everything between No more questions to be asked “Hallo” to the burgermeister Who tore down the Christmas tree Broken bones, the children all alone Inverted on the studio scene “Mahisse” to Adjudant-chef Galoup Dutifully patrolling the flats Celibacy his destiny Buttressed by the fate of the fat cats Lopin’ away, a danger to the masses No more wells to frack Highs and lows and everything between No more questions to be asked

Antoine and Colette Forging for utopian dreams Flunking out the military boot camps And tossing their figurines Canticle of creatures Assembling on the Seine School is out Do you think they’ll get the hint? But you don’t know what you’re doing Raised on sugar and wine Leave the bread for the one below you As you drag her in the dirt behind But the night comes You see his face on the ashen TV screen Knowing the words from university lectures Talking the talk of your dreams, but you’re never here nor there Middle class on the best day Privileged on the worst Insufferable talk of denial Dance it off in the garden first Waves of revolution come and winds change You sign your name in ink but vomit An egg-white breakfast all over Your little red book, its every page But you don’t know what you’re doing Raised on sugar and wine Leave the bread for the one below you As you drag her in the dirt behind But the night comes You see his face on the ashen TV screen Knowing the words from university lectures Talking the talk of your dreams, but you’re never here nor there

Hills and rusting trains, Cobblestone’s the only change Middle English etiquette Fame and shame are all you get Man and wife both know Love should only grow If you feed a dying shark, You’re praying for snow It’s grim up north A dying breed keeps dying all the same I’ll stay where the light is found Even if it’s brokenhearted, lame In Gethsemani, He photographs decaying trees Like his father ‘fore Painting scenes, not keeping score Likewise in the hour Finding more power Never in the catacombs But in the surge of telephones It’s grim up north A dying breed keeps dying all the same I’ll stay where the light is found Even if it’s brokenhearted, lame

True Faith 02:49
I’ve got my white robes shining in the light of the day You’ve got your short skirt, kicking up dirt I’m spitting theory esoteric mystery You’re picking up the kind of people left behind Your love, the rarest of all While the rest of us will never cease to fall I am the righteous one, the one who prays You’re the one who gives and takes and saves And that’s true faith I’ve got my Dogma screamed into a crowd You’ve got your helping hand really taking down the man I am a panther, above the floor in trees You’re a lion, firmly planted, brave and free Your love, the rarest of all While the rest of us will never cease to fall I am the righteous one, the one who prays You’re the one who gives and takes and saves And that’s true faith

Well I could be an artist But I’d have to work in retail Or I could be an academic But I’d hate the details I could be a model But I’d have to kill someone Or I could be a DJ But I’d hog the microphone But it’s not my fault Born into a war No, it’s not my, Not my fault But you’ve shown me My proclivity To run and hide With my paintbrush Well I could be a soldier But I hate to be wet So I’d move to Baghdad High on ket A cynical monkey Ravaging lives Caught in a dust storm, baby, I shouldn’t be surprised But it’s not my fault Born into a war No, it’s not my, Not my fault But you’ve shown me My proclivity To run and hide With my paintbrush

Never a present, never a past, Never a thing to call first or last Only a time for living Only a time for dying Never a good one, never a bad, And this fad is that fad and that fad Like “the Way is the Way is the Way” The Baba was right when he’d say Always a time to look and see Today is the same as yesterday, see Tomorrow’s the same as that, too And nothing’s ever new But belief in a song is belief in the ideal The same goes for love Right now, that’s it, There’s only me, there’s only you

Fragrances 04:39
Planned memories like none other Saltine crackers dipped in butter We’ll take our time planning this life As best as we can As best as we can, and at the end When we know it’s time to see it again We’ll watch more intensely Than ever before Questioning “is this a dream?” Have you seen what I’ve seen? Fragrances of a warm night in 2016 I know what I’m saying I know what I’ve seen But I had a cloudy head, All prejudiced and green Tamarack and conifer Anonymous pond Factory to factory And cell reception gone Habanero happenstance And Thai at the capital Rainy night as two years pass Nothing we could grasp at all In the moment, nothing to do In that moment, nothing to do Fragrances of a warm night in 2016 I know what I’m saying I know what I’ve seen But I had a cloudy head, All prejudiced and green

about

Recorded Summer & Fall 2021

in Glasgow, Scotland

In their second full-length record of 2021, Kill Symbols have expanded their musical palette by digging deeper into a sound. The synths and electronic drums remain—this time with a more warm and fluid texture that looks to grandiose visions on the fringes of the post-glam and new wave eras: Japan, Roxy Music, and The Human League. But the lyrical ideas borrow from more far-ranging sources, such as the literary works of Ram Dass, Hermann Hesse, Thomas Merton, and Alan Sillitoe; lectures from Cornel West; Zen; the movies of Jean-Luc Godard; the biography of John Coltrane; the meeting of the sacred and profane; and the legacy of industry. The lead single, “Little Red Books,” is inspired by youth radicalism, but is it a call to arms? A satire? Both? Regardless, you’ll be dancing all the way.
