Waiting for friends to
Un-cling from the balustrades
Descending the stairs
I say come join me, please
Join us
This is a joint effort
Supplanted by me
Because that’s my name
Jacob, the supplanter
Usurper of Esau
But also deceiver

I don’t want to uproot kingdoms
Until I am alone as an island
Because I don’t believe in kingdoms
I suppose there’s THE Kingdom

But I do wrestle with angels

The protests clashed through
The echo chamber into
Halls of ice and grub
All for the better
And I thought that was a strike
That mattered
I felt radical then
Now look what the world’s become

Plant your webbed feet on
Thatched roofs til the white-shirt comes
Pushing modern times
Wrote an essay
On green anarchism
Green as in environmental
Green as in inexperienced, virgin
Green as in envious
On optimism
It wasn’t picked up
Not even the underground media
Took an interest in my words

To catch the moment
Open everything and just
Be at the center
Scratch that
I don’t want naturalism
I deal in dreams
Not in sentimentalism
Where comedy dies
And tragedy is sapped of its glory,
Its weight, its impact,
Its certitude,
Which is something I value
Perhaps my friends and family can tell this
Or perhaps it’s the opposite
Some days, it seems the latter is true

Raucous howling wind
Stirring up my decadent
Dreamscapes through the night

Train switches its tracks
And rust rubs, dignified,
Pulling the masses

Tomorrow the men
Will sit on resined wood and
Drink a toast

Red carpet pictures
Morph with the pangs of shame and
Guilt found only here

So keep chipping away
And just describe rays of light
On the water
Cross the bridge
And move with them from sunrise
To sundown
One good stateside
One good here
